Hi Matt,
Received your new version of the WaterTankTec Powered Anode this afternoon. Thanks you!!!
I relatively quickly mounted it to the pre-installed alternative Tee fitting. The only snag turned out to be a heat retention flap at the bottom of the Hot Water Tank outlet nipple that I did not know about before now. Initially I was tempted to just replace the nipple, taking advantage of the opportunity to shorten it an inch, but after removal I noticed it was lined with a plastic coating that clearly helps reduce (eliminate?) nipple corrosion. The only Home Depot equivalent Water Tank nipples available were just 3" long, too short to reach through my tank's top insulation layer. In the end I was able to remove the flap so proceed with the installation using the original nipple without the flap.
The Potential Controller is initially working as expected, so all seems good at this point. Attached is a picture of the overall revised installation (which also shows other water components for my house: a filter, softener, and recirc pump (which powers the two return loops visible on the back wall, which combine into a single line with subsequent check, air release, and manual valves before re-entering tank). In a few days (to check that no slow leaks show up) I will add insulation around the tank outlet fittings.
Thank you again so much for your quick response and for standing behind your warranty!
